Frequently Asked Questions

What superannuation tax obligations have lodgement and payment dates?

Super-related obligations can include SMSF annual returns, employer Super Guarantee payments and contributions-related tax reporting.

Who is responsible for meeting superannuation deadlines?

Responsibility depends on the arrangement — employers, individuals and SMSF trustees all have specific obligations they must meet on time.

What happens if superannuation lodgements or payments are late?

Late lodgement or payment can result in penalties, interest charges and increased ATO scrutiny.

Are lodgement dates the same for everyone?

No. Due dates can vary depending on whether you use a tax agent, the type of super fund and whether it’s a first-year return.

Should I lodge and pay earlier than the due date?

Yes. Lodging and paying early reduces the risk of errors, penalties and last-minute issues.

Do these due dates apply to every super fund or SMSF?

Not always. Unless stated otherwise, the due dates are generally provided for 30 June balancers, so different dates may apply if your reporting period is different.

Changed to this company in 2019 from former accountant and love their approach of organizing everything for me face to face with Xero set up plus being able to call as much as I need for set annual fee. They also picked up on something that was not done correctly by my former accountant and saved me $4k for this.
